Charles Dale Nice

CHARLES DALE NICE Funeral services for Charles Dale Nice, a longtime resident of Cortez will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 27 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Pastors Bill Jacobs and Del Leger will officiate. Interment will be held at the Kansas Church Cemetery in Salem, Ind. at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 30. Dale was born October 8, 1921 at Arcola, Ill. the son of Charles Banks and Anna Pearl (Alspaugh) Nice. He passed away at his home in Cortez on Thursday, December 23, 2004 at the age of 83. During World War II, Dale served his country with the Navy Sea Bees. After his separation he held membership with the Mancos VFW and the Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. He married Nancy Jewell Gregory on September 7, 1947 at Levonia, Ind. Shortly after their marriage the couple moved to the Cortez area where he operated Nice electric. Dale was the oldest “grandfathered” licensed master electrician in the whole area. He enjoyed his time spent outdoors, hunting, fishing and walking. Surviving Dale are his wife of 57 years, Nancy Nice of Cortez; his children, Glenn Nathan Nice and wife, Cindy of La Habra, Calif. and Janet Marie Nice Davis and husband, Richard of Cortez; and two grandsons, Stanley Earl Nice and Nathan Vern Nice of La Habra, Calif. Four brothers, Raymond Nice of Pekin, Ind., Robert Nice, Junior Nice and James Nice all of Salem, Ind.; and four sisters, Ruby Humphrey, Betty Strange, Nona Cole and Helen Brenamen all of Salem, Ind. also survive Dale. Two sons preceded Dale in death; Stanley Wayne Nice in 1949 and Lowell Dean Nice in 1957; as did two brothers, Stanley and Richard; and three sisters, Annamae, Hazel and Patricia.
