CHARLES BENNETT “CHARLIE” EDGERTON Funeral services for Cortez resident Charles Bennett Edgerton will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 2 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. Charlie was born on June 23, 1925 in Clovis, N.M., the son of Charles Alvin and Blanche (Ford) Edgerton. He passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2006 at his residence at the age of 81. On December 24, 1947, Charlie married Billie Madeleine Bush at her home in Raymondville, Tex. Charlie was a very active member of the Boy Scouts having been a past Leader in Ozona, Tex. He was also named “Queen of the Kitchen” at the Colorado State Fair in 1984. Surviving Charlie are his wife of 58 years, Billie Edgerton of Cortez; his children, Janie VanZandt and husband, Joe of Mobeetie, Tex., Don Edgerton of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Skookie Bailey and husband, Dave of Sour Lake, Tex., and Bill Edgerton of Cortez; his sister, Ruth Slay of Houston, Tex., and nine grandchildren. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial contributions may be made in Charlie’s memory to the Great Southwest Council Boy Scouts of America, 5841 Office Boulevard NE, Albuquerque, N.M. 87109.
