CHANCE JOSEPH GONZALES Funeral services for Cortez resident Chance Joseph Gonzales will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 20 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Visitation has been scheduled for Sunday afternoon from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Rosary services will begin at 5 p.m. Chance was born on April 10, 2000 in Cortez to Ruben Joseph Gonzales and Malisa Ann (Massey) Armendarez. He passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at the Children's Hospital in Denver. Chance enjoyed the outdoors most especially hunting, fishing, and camping. He also loved biking and collecting rocks. Chance's greatest love was Chevy trucks. Surviving Chance are his parents, Ruben Gonzales of Cortez and Malisa Armendarez of Montrose; his step-mother, Dina Gonzales of Cortez; his brothers, Anthony and Chris Gonzalez; his half brothers, Vernon Williams and Steven Little; his step brothers Jeffrey Hatch, Trinidad Romero, Alfred Romero Jr., William Romero, Gino Romero, Raul Jimenez, Joel Jimenez, and Antonio Romero; his step sister, Cindy Romero; his maternal grandparents, Jake and Susie Honaker of Cortez; his aunts, Peggy Hall and husband, Curtis of Cortez and Cora Ohmert and husband, Greg Samuelson of Golden, Colo.; and his uncle, Paul Gonzales and wife, Cali of Glenwood Springs, Colo. Chance was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jose I. and Victorinia Gonzales. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chance Gonzales Memorial Fund at First National Bank, 2258 E. Main, Cortez.
