Carol Jean Carrasco De Groff passed away peacefully in Cahone, CO on August 7, 2021 with her husband by her side.
Carol was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1950 to parents George and Nancy Carrasco. Her parents moved to Florida, south of Miami, when she was very small. She was the oldest child and eventually the chief babysitter of a brood of five brothers and a sister. She eventually married her high school sweetheart, Bob De Groff, while he served in the army in 1968. They lived in Massachusetts while he was stationed at Ft. Devens until 1969. When Bob was sent to Vietnam, Carol moved back to Florida and lived with his parents awaiting his eventual return. Her loving support and letters while he was away at war were immensely important to him.
Carol worked as a head bank teller in Miami until they were blessed with a baby boy, William, in 1977. The family eventually moved north of Miami to the small town of Hobe Sound, FL where Bob worked as a state park police officer. Carol worked as an office manager for a small law firm, and also as an aerobics instructor.
Carol and Bob enjoyed vacationing in the west and eventually decided on retiring to the country here. Over several years they searched many western states for a location and finally settled on the beautiful area of Southwest Colorado. Upon retirement in 2006 Carol and Bob moved to a 40-acre plot in Cahone, CO, happy to escape the congestion and traffic back east. Carol had taken up bowling with her parents as a teenager and continued to love it her whole life, bowling in a league in Cortez. She loved country living, Elvis Presley, country music, making ceramics, and collecting Navajo and Ute art. She was a beautiful, loving person inside and out and will be missed terribly.
Surviving Carol are her loving husband, Bob; her brothers, David, Allen, and Bruce Carrasco in Alabama; her sister, Nancy Caballero and brothers, Bob and Tom Carrasco in Florida; and her sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Bruce Morene of California.
Carol asked that any small memorial contributions made to Hospice of Montezuma (PO Box 740, Cortez, CO 81321) would be greatly appreciated. Their expert care and concern were a great comfort in her final days.
