CARL HAMPTON MASSEY Memorial services for longtime Mancos resident, Carl Hampton Massey will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 24 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Pastor Luther Shields will be officiating. Carl was born on March 10, 1924 in Antlers, Okla. the son of James and Eva Elizabeth (Vaughn) Massey. He passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2004 at the Valley Inn Nursing Home in Mancos at the age of 80. Carol served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. On April 9, 1994 Carl married Helen Peel in Dolores. Carl enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and gardening. Surviving Carl are his children, Sheila Massey, and John Massey and wife, Caroline all of Dolores; his step-children, Wayne Noland and wife, Monica of Dolores, Colene Noland of Mancos, Lalla Chadwick of Bozeman, Mont., and Diana Green of Las Vegas, Nev. He leaves his grandchildren, Carla Beeman, Brett Beeman, Jesse Massey, and Bonnie Massey; as well as his great-grandchildren, Justin Lynn Massey and Kala Fay Massey; and his siblings, Mary Flister of Roswell, N.M., Vonnie Jo Calp of Washington, D.C., and Bobby Jene Massey of Tex. Many other grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive Carl. Preceding him in death were his parents; and his first wife, Venna Fay Massey.
