CARL ALVIN KNIGHT Funeral services for lifelong Towaoc resident and former Ute Mountain Ute Tribal Council member Carl Alvin Knight will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20 at the home of Carl Knight, 2282 Sunrise Drive, Towaoc. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Boyd Lopez and Terry Knight will officiate. Military honors will be provided by Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. A wake will begin at 5 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the Carl Knight residence. Carl was born on February 7, 1941 in Towaoc, Colo. the son of Charlie and Kate (Snow) Knight. He passed away on Friday, August 15, 2008 at Pinecrest, Colo. at the age of 67. Carl was very involved with the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe. He actively participated with the Ute Tribal Council and he was President of the Native American Church. Carl enjoyed taking part in Sun Dances. Surviving Carl are his wife, Leora Knight of Towaoc; and his children, Karlita Knight, Koosman A. Knight of Towaoc, and Carla Knight of Towaoc. He also leaves behind his step-children, Darwin House, Glenda Badbear, Alton House, Norman Wall and wife, Glynis, and Esther Lopez and husband, Boyd all of Towaoc; his son, Patrick Knight of Towaoc; his siblings, Judy Knight and husband, Bob of Towaoc, Terry Knight and wife, Flaydina of Towaoc, and Katherine Ridley of White Rocks, Utah; numerous grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. Carl was preceded in death by his parents.
