BRUCE VANCE HIXON Funeral services for Bruce Vance Hixon a lifelong resident of Lewis will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 29 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Lewis Cemetery with Military Honors being provided by Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. Visitation has been set for Tuesday evening at Ertel Chapel beginning at 7 p.m. Bruce was born December 9, 1923 in Fowler, Colo. the son of Myrle L. and Blanche (Snider) Hixon. He passed away in Casper, Wyo. on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at the age of 86. Myrle, Bruce’s father, died tragically when Bruce was only five. His mother later remarried and the family moved to the Lewis area in 1941. During World War II, Bruce proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. After his return to the Lewis area he met Juanita Combs. The couple were married March 5, 1950 in Lewis; sharing 53 years of marriage before Juanita’s death in 2003. As most men of his generation, Bruce was a very hard working man ranching and farming from dawn to dusk. He ranched in the Lewis area for more than 60 years. In 2000 Bruce was recognized by the Southwest Cattleman’s Association as Cattleman of the Year. From 1950 to 1960 Bruce worked for Cortez Auction and later went to work for Hearthceft Cattle Company as a cattle buyer. Bruce was a lifetime member of Ute Mountain American Legion for more than 68 years and was a member of the Southwest Cattleman’s Association. Surviving Bruce are his daughter, Sharon Schrack of Lewis; his son, Vance Hixon and wife, Mindy, of Wamsutter, Wyo.; his grandson, Logan Hixon also of Wamsutter, Wyo.; his brother, Donald Hixon and wife, Genean, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and numerous nephews and nieces. Preceding Bruce in death were his wife, Juanita Hixon; and his parents.
