BRUCE C. McAFEE Funeral services for lifelong area resident, Bruce C. McAfee will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at the Lewis Cemetery. Pastor Vicki Richards Street of the Johnson Memorial Methodist Church will officiate. Visitation has been set for Wednesday afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Ertel Chapel. Bruce was born the son of Charles Clifford and Ada Violet (Miner) McAfee in Cortez on Aug. 24, 1929. He passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004. Bruce was 75 years old. On Dec. 18, 1950 in Farmington, N.M., Bruce married Guyrene Retherford. From this union four children were born, Melanie, Mike, Suzie and Bruce. Bruce was an active participant of his community. He served on the RE-1 School Board for 20 years. Serving on the Dolores Water Conservancy District for 19 years, he was instrumental in making the McPhee Dam a reality. Bruce loved his family dearly and enjoyed his work as a rancher. He was active with the High School Rodeo. Bruce held membership with the Mason's and the Elks Club. He enjoyed watching the Broncos play football as well as college football games. He liked playing cards and loved his work at the Ute Mountain Casino. Surviving Bruce are his wife of 54 years, Guyrene McAfee of Lewis; his children, Melanie Filener and husband, Casey and Mike McAfee and wife, Angie all of Lewis, Suzie Boehm of Wisconsin, and Bruce 'Buzz' McAfee and wife, Lydia also of Lewis; and nine grandchildren, Bryan and Mandy McAfee, Cody and Shacy Filener, Ty Boehm, Morgan McAfee, and Jenna, Charles and Derrick Jeter. His brother, Charles McAfee and grandson, Mark McAfee precede Bruce in death.
