Bobby Jack Bates, Sr.

BOBBY JACK BATES, SR. Funeral services for Mancos resident, Bobby Jack Bates, Sr. will be held in Texas. A Memorial services will be held in Mancos at a later date. Bobby was born on March 12, 2004 the son of Albert J. and Meady M. (Grounds) Bates. He passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2004 at the Mercy Medical Center in Durango at the age of 68. On May 13, 1977 in Texas, Bob married Mary Grace Gillespie. Bob was an avid hunter who was able to hunt all over the world. He has to his credit 160 mounts of animals. He belonged to the Dallas Safari Club, and was president in 1982. During the five years he lived in Mancos, Bob was a member of the Mancos First Baptist Church. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Bates of Avalon, Tex.; his children, Karen Carns and husband, Tim of Phoenix, Ariz., Bobby Bates, Jr. and wife, Karen of Valley View, Tex., and Linda Bates of Valencia, Calif.; and his step-daughter, Paige Frome and husband, Bill of Richardson, Tex. He leaves his grandchildren, Angelia, Nicholas, Tara, Sheena, Josh, Caleb, Hannah, Rebecca, and Noah; and his four great-grandchildren; as well as a host of friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; and one brother.
