BILLY L. STRIEGEL Memorial services for lifelong area resident, Billy L. Striegel will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 12 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Pastor David Ramsey of the Rock Springs Community Church will officiate. Military Honors will be presented by Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. Bill, as he was known by family and friends, was born October 1, 1933 in Durango, Colo. the son of Clyde Russell and Elma Irene (Myers) Striegel. He passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital on Friday, May 7, 2010 at the age of 76. Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. On December 29, 1978, Bill married Judy Ann Dalaba in Aztec, N.M. Together they shared 31 loving years. Bill was employed by Montezuma County Road Department as a road grader maintainer. For many years Bill maintained the Ground Hog road often blazing a trail in the snow for cattlemen to bring down their stranded cattle. When Bill's family thought of him, his love of pranks and jokes brought smiles to their faces. He was known to be quite mischievous. On Saturday mornings Bill and Judy loved listening to old country western music on the radio. Surviving Bill are his loving wife, Judy Striegel of Dolores; two sons, Monty Striegel of Bloomfield, N.M. and David Striegel and wife, Bonita of Aztec, N.M.; his step children, Kathy Durand of Crescent City, Calif., John Dyke of Denver, Colo., and James Dyke of Dolores; by five grandchildren, Brittany, Jeremiah, Little Mont, April and Adam; and by one great grandchild. Bill is also survived by his sister, Betty Babich of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a brother, Boyd Striegel of Canon City, Colo.; and by many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Striegel; his mother, Elma Boren; and by his brother, Bob Striegel.
