BILLY D. WATSON Memorial services for longtime Dolores resident Billy D. Watson will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 3 at the Arriola Community Center. Inurnment will follow at Lewis Cemetery with military honors provided by Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. Visitation has been scheduled for Sunday morning from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Bill was born on September 24, 1936 in Lewis the son of Edward U. and Edith (Chamblee) Watson. He passed away at his home in Dolores on Monday, July 27, 2009 due to lung cancer. Bill was 72 years old. Bill farmed most of his life at his farm in Yellow Jacket. He served in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1957. He was a member of the Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75, V.F.W., Elks Lodge, and the Yellow Jacket Grange. Bill enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family and grandchildren. He cared for his garden and lawn with lots of love and care. Bill enjoyed playing croquet with family and friends and usually there would be a little bet on who was going to win the game. There was also playing softball and pitching horseshoes and Bill won a trophy or two. Bill loved playing dominoes with his grandchildren and other members of the family, along with poker and 500. Bill will be missed by many friends and relatives. Surviving Bill are his wife of 31 years, Herma J. Watson of Dolores; and his children, Lindy Brogdon of Frankston, Tex., Devena Branson of Cortez, Clayton Watson and wife, Marlene of Dolores, Clinton Watson and wife, Freda of Cortez, Kevin Watson of Dolores, Bruce Uptain and wife, Earlene of Dolores. Bill also leaves behind his step-children, Suzanne Visnieski and husband, George of Harrah, Okla., and Brent Bergen and wife, Debbie of Twin Falls, Idaho; 22 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Cecil Watson and wife, Beverly of Springfield, Ore., Thomas Watson and wife, Betsy of Aurora, Colo., and Hazel Englehart Jacobs of Cortez; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Edith Watson; his grandparents, Luther and Adella Watson and Newt and Mollie Chamblee; and by his aunt and uncle, Georgia and Benjamin Leavitt. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made in memory of Billy Watson to Hospice of Montezuma, P.O. Box 740, Cortez, Colo. 81321.
