BEVERLY JEAN HUGHES Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident, Beverly Jean Hughes will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 26 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. Bev was born on Oct. 2, 1950 in Gunnison, Colo. to Oraly Francis and Ethel Mae (Smith) Muzzy. She passed away on Friday, March 19, 2004 at St. Francis Hospital in Colorado Springs. Bev was 53 years old. Beverly was a hairdresser for 30 years; she owned shops in Cortez, Castle Rock, and several other towns; all in Colorado. She enjoyed her work very much. She also enjoyed tole painting, crafts and being with her family. She moved to Cortez with her family when she was 18 years old. Beverly lived and worked in Cortez for many years before moving to Durango and then ending up in Larkspur, Colo. Her husband, Virgil Hughes of Larkspur, Colo.; her daughter, LeAnn Chandler of Larkspur; sons, Brad Hughes of Topeka, Kans., and Travis Hughes of Cortez; her father, Oraly Muzzy of Cortez; her brothers, Wesley Muzzy of Heber, Ariz., Danny Muzzy of Cortez, and Craig Muzzy and wife, Laura of Cortez; her sisters, Janet Glenn and husband, Danny, Susan Sander and husband, Jon, and Brandee Muzzy all of Cortez; as well as numerous nieces and nephews survive Beverly. Preceding her in death were her mother, Ethel Mae Muzzy; and her brother, Aaron Matthew Muzzy.
