BETTY PAULINE BEARLY Funeral services for longtime Lewis resident Betty Pauline Bearly will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Lewis Cemetery. Betty Pauline (Haney) Bearly was born to Charles Berk and Maggie Myrtle Haney on October 30, 1924, in a home West of Ackman, Colorado. A child of a homesteading family, she spent her early years on the farm with her siblings; Lucille, William "Bud", Dorothy, Barbara Louis, and Marvin. At the age of 20, Betty left the Cortez area to attend Beauty College in Colorado Springs. In December of 1944, she was finally able to meet William Clayton Bearly whom she had been corresponding with for over a year. On February 4th 1945, they were married in the Four Square Church in Eaton, Colorado. Clayton and Betty lived wherever work took them in the early part of their marriage. They settled in the Loveland, Colorado, area where Clayton took over management of the new Johnson's Corner Truck Stop. They remained there for 25 years and then Clayton retired and they moved to Southwest Colorado to begin a new chapter in their life. To this Marriage was born Ronald Clayton, Phillip Bruce, Shirley Sue, Arlin Ross, Marilyn Diane, and Bonnie Jean. In 1977, Clayton passed away at the age of 54 in their home on the Dolores River. Betty stayed on the river until 1980 when she started the project of building her new home in Lewis, CO, which she named "Morningside". She remained there until November of 2015 when she moved into assisted living. Betty passed away on May 26, 2016 at Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 91. Her personal foundation was her faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. The highlight of her life was marrying Clayton and having a family together. She took great pride in working and caring for her home and property. Betty was an avid writer, historian, and story-teller. Until the very end she gladly entertained many with her tales. Grandma Betty had a great impact on everyone she met and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Surviving Betty are her children, Phillip Bearly (LuWauna) of Loveland, Colo., Shirley Yoder (Jeff) of Yellow Jacket, Colo., Arlin Bearly (Vicki) of Meade, Colo., and Bonnie Means of Sheridan, Wyo.; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; her brother, Marvin Haney (June) of The Dalles, Ore.; and by her daughter-in-law, Shirley Bearly of Fort Collins, Colo.
