On Wednesday, September 11, 2019, Betty Hill, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away at the age of 95.
Betty was born in Liberal, KS to Samuel and Katie Greene. She had a front row seat to some of the most amazing events and discoveries throughout her lifetime. She survived the Great Depression and Dust Bowl and shared her experiences, which captivated her family and made her the hard-working, talented, caring and good natured woman that she was. Betty met James “Gib” Hill at a Christmas party upon his return home from World War II, and they married April 6, 1946. Gib and Betty raised 2 sons, Gary and Rick, and one daughter, Janet.
Betty was known for her tasty home-cooked meals, impeccable seamstress abilities and her green thumb. Throughout her life, the dinner table was a place of laughter, stories, and love. While living in various parts of Colorado, she always had beautiful flowers and plants both in and out of the home. Her garden produced fruits and veggies to share. Betty’s flowers, especially her roses, were always at their best welcoming you home, whether it was in Hotchkiss, Gunnison, Durango, Montrose, Cortez, Mancos or later in Arizona, you knew that Betty was there by the color and life that greeted you. She was also quite a prankster as known by her children, grandchildren, and the new members of the family that joined with each generation. Betty kept you on your toes and loved playing jokes and sharing laughs with her family.
Betty was a member of the Church of Christ and is preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters, and her husband, Gib. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Gary and Glenda Hill (Surprise, AZ), Rick and Liz Hill (Berthoud, CO), and Janet and Dave Bray (Durango, CO), her six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many other cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 12th, 2019 at Riverside Cemetery in Hotchkiss, CO.
