BERTHA MARIE BREWER Funeral services for lifelong area resident Bertha Marie Brewer will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 11 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Peel Cemetery. Visitation has been scheduled for Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ertel Chapel. Bertha was born June 11, 1916 in Ellington, Mo. the daughter of Jefferson Davis and Catherine Ann (Buffington) Knuckles. She passed away on Monday, February 6, 2012 at Vista Grande Inn at the age of 95. On April 13, 1932, Bertha married Melvin Orville Brewer in Blanding, Utah. Bertha was a member of the Jehovah's Witness Church. She enjoyed time spent gardening, crocheting, embroidering and quilting. She spent much time reading and watching soap operas. Bertha was a wonderful caretaker for many people. Surviving Bertha are her children, Kay Sanders and husband, Tony of Cortez, Mary Wise and husband, Harold of Libby, Mont., and Melba Randolph and husband, Larry of Dove Creek; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Bertha also leaves behind her sisters, Irene Randolph of Blanding, Utah and Ruth Saunders of Cahone. She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Melvin Brewer; by her children, Stella Jean Brewer, Jefferson Elmer Brewer, and Shirley Ann Brewer; and by her siblings, Tom Knuckles, Imo Lowe, Alice Wilson, Maude Evans, Louie Randolph, Maxine Sanders, and Baby John. Memorial contributions may be made in Bertha Brewer's name to Hospice of Montezuma, P.O. Box 740 Cortez, Colo. 81321.
