BERNIE JOE CHAVEZ Funeral services for Bernie Joe Chavez, a lifelong resident of Mancos will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 17 at Mancos New Life Assembly of God Church. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation has been set for Friday afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Bernie was born September 25, 1932 in Mancos to Isador and Frances M. (Cordova) Chavez. He passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at the age of 75. Bernie was active in the Mancos Assembly of God Church. He loved to fish and then gave them all away to his friends in Mancos. He was always ready to assist anyone who needed help, especially the widow ladies of Mancos. Surviving Bernie are two sisters, Annie Romero and Helen Randall both of Cortez; and by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and one sister.
