BERNARD EDWIN FRANKLIN Memorial services for longtime Cortez resident, Bernard Edwin Franklin will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 16 at the Cortez Christian Church. Pastor Charles Story will be officiating. Bernard was born on December 8, 1915 in DeBeque, Colorado the son of Floyd C. and Gladys M. (Huntley) Franklin. He passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at the San Juan Regional Hospital in Farmington, N.M. at the age of 89. On May 21, 1939 in Clifton, Colo. Bernard married Iris Gardner. Bernard was the 4-H leader for the Rio Blanco County Fair Board for 20 years. He was a hard working Cattle Rancher who enjoyed fishing, hunting, wood working and reading. Spending time with his grandchildren was also great love of Bernard’s. Surviving Bernard are his wife, Iris Franklin of Cortez; his children, Ruthmary & Lawrence Allison of Grand Junction, Colo., Floyd G. Franklin and wife, Earline of Cortez, and Ed Franklin II and wife, Christie of Fort Collins, Colo. He leaves ten grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and his brother and sister, George Franklin and wife, Juanita of Cedaredge, Colo., and Myrtle St. John of Pinedale, Wyo. Preceding him in death were his parents; his son, John Franklin, and his sister, Mary Edith Foster. Memorial contributions can be made in Bernard's name at Dolores State Bank.
