BEATRICE LILLIAN “Betty” GILMORE Memorial services for longtime Mancos resident Beatrice Lillian 'Betty' Gilmore will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 13 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Mancos. Betty was born on December 25, 1903 at Fort Recovery, Ohio the daughter of Fred and Lotta (Edwards) Fisher. She passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2004 at her home in Mancos at the age of 100. Betty grew up in the historic small town of Fort Recovery, Ohio. She married Harry Mace in 1923. The next 39 years were spent in the oil business. Harry was a production superintendent and his work took them to various states. In 1941 Harry was appointed to area supervisor with the Texas Railroad Commission and they moved to Sequin, Texas where they lived for 11 years. When Sequin began their own radio station, Betty did a poetry program for five years until she and Harry left Texas for their next adventure in Colorado. In 1952 Harry and Betty moved to Mancos. They lovingly worked the land and the old ranch house over to make it a wonderful place for their children, grandchildren, and friends from all over the country to come every summer. Harry died in 1962. In 1965 Betty married George Gilmore and the two of them enjoyed the mountains and the ranch until his death nearly 21 years later in 1986. Betty lived in the same ranch house on Highway 160 for 52 years. Betty was a member of PEO for 46 years. She always enjoyed reading and was well known for her book reviews. She was also and avid Bridge player and played until she was 95. Betty loved life and lived it to the fullest with great enthusiasm. Betty’s son, Marvin R. Mace and wife, Goldye of Sequin, Tex.; her nine grandchildren, Betty King and husband, Roger, Kathy Campbell and husband, John, Nan Thomas and husband, Dan, Jim Mace and wife, Jill, Karen Marcea, Anita Dolen, Molly’o Dolen Panissidi, Rick Campbell and wife, Jamie, and Scott Campbell and wife, Jody; six great-grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren; and granddaughter-in-law, Sandi Campbell survive her. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husbands, Harry Mace and George W. Gilmore; her daughters, Colleen Mace Campbell, and Marilyn Mace Dolen; and her grandchildren, Jerrie Dolen, and Mike Campbell. Memorial contributions can be made in Betty’s memory to Hospice of Montezuma.
