Barbara Vincene Baker-Hamilton
Barbara was born December 22, 1942 in Burlington Colorado. She and her brother Freddie were adopted September 18, 1947 by Mary and Jim Baker of Dolores Colorado. After adopting both Barbara and Freddie they continued to live in Dolores, Colorado and Barbara would remain here throughout her life.
Barbara attended Dolores Schools until graduation in 1961. Barbara married Oscar Hamilton July 22, 1961. They were married for 55 years until Oscar’s death in 2017. To this union two sons were born, Brent Ray Hamilton June 21, 1962, and Rusty Dean Hamilton July 9, 1971.
Barbara was a faithful member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Dolores. She enjoyed playing the Organ for the church and faithfully played for 50 years. When she developed issues with her eyesight, she reluctantly gave this up as she had difficulty reading the music. She enjoyed attending church activities, especially working the fundraising food stand during Escalante Days. She was a homemaker and farmers wife for most of her adult life. She started working when her sons were grown and out of the house. Barbara worked at the Dolores Public Library for 21 years. As a lifelong resident of Dolores, people often sought her out for her knowledge of the area. She was well known for her smiling face behind the circulation desk.
After husband Oscar’s death in 2017 she worked for PASCO, a Home Health Care Service. She worked as a home health care aide serving those who needed a little extra help and smiling face. She loved and enjoyed her clients and continued to work up until a month before her passing.
Barbara's hobbies included reading, crocheting, and cooking. She was very proud to have won the Pinto Bean Queen in 1980 for her famous Pinto bean donuts. She would also bake for the family and take items to the farmer’s market. Barbara loved her family and was always willing to help where needed. She enjoyed attending their sporting events, birthdays and other events.
Barbara is survived by her sons, Brent Hamilton of Aztec NM, and Rusty Hamilton wife Kim of Dolores, CO; grandsons, Darmaun Hamilton wife Diana of Aztec, NM, Stetson Hamilton Fiancé Mary of Cortez, CO, Tel Hamilton of Dolores, CO; granddaughter, Rayla Beauvais husband Jean Claude Beauvais of Phoenix, AZ; brother, Fred Baker of Whitman, AZ; sister, Jan Knight of Vancover, WA; and five great grandchildren, Nathan, Emily, Rylie, Grayson, and Adeline; and many nieces and nephews. Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Baker; her father, James Baker; her husband, Oscar Hamilton; and her siblings, Mac, Silvia, Billie, and Vincient.
Services for Barbara will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2022 at the Dolores Catholic Church Our lady of Victory.
