AVALINE GROSS Funeral services for Cortez resident, Avaline Gross will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 5 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Cremation will take place following the services. Visitation has been set for Monday evening from 4 to 6 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Avaline was born the daughter of Clarence G. and Sadie (Franks) Bolin on December 6, 1919 in Murfreesboro, Arkansas. She passed away at Vista Grande Inn on Friday, May 1, 2009 at the age of 89. Avaline moved to Cortez to be nearer her daughter. For the past four years she was bed bound. She loved to share stories from her years as a first grade teacher. She was an avid player of Bingo and Dominoes. She kept her hands busy embroidering, crocheting and putting puzzles together. In her early years she sang with a quartet on the radio which began a lifelong love of singing. Most of all, Avaline loved time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving Avaline are her daughter, Mary Ellen Spiegel of Cortez, her grandchildren, David Spiegel of Cortez, Frank Spiegel and wife, Severiana of Lakewood, Calif., and Justin Spiegel and wife, Nicole of Cortez; three great grandchildren, Matthew Spiegel, Chloe Spiegel and Hali Spiegel; and her sister, Mary Beth Clark and husband, Ben of El Dorado, Ark. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Avaline Gross with Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75.
