AUBREY LEE "BUD" ROACH Funeral services for longtime Mancos resident Aubrey Lee "Bud" Roach will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26 at Mancos Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation has been scheduled for Monday evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Aubrey "Bud" Roach was born in 1929 in San Angelo, TX, the son of William C. Roach and Fairel (Thomas) Roach. He went to be with his Lord on March 20, 2013 at age 83. He passed from this life at home surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer. Bud is survived by his wife, Frances (Aston) Roach (they celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary March 15th); his son, Michael Roach and wife, Deanna of Oklahoma City, Okla.; his daughters, Gayla Randol and husband, Glen of Mancos, Colo. and Lynette Harrell and husband, Vern of Cortez, Colo.; 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; his sister, Jean Whiteside and husband, John of Albuquerque, N.M.; his brothers, Henry Roach of Midland, Tex. and Mathew Roach and wife, Peggy of Albuquerque, N.M.; and a host of friends around the world. Bud spent much of his early life on a large ranch in the Big Bend country of Texas (the ranch is now the Big Bend National Park). He moved to Dexter, N.M. at age 15 where he met the love of his life. They married in 1949 and because of their love of the mountains, they moved their young family to Colorado in 1954. They settled in Mancos where they purchased and operated the Welcome Motel for 20 years. Bud worked for the Soil Conversation Service, the Forest Service and, upon his retirement, created Roach Engineering where he worked as a consultant for Montezuma County for many years. He was a founding father of the annual Mancos Days celebration, an outdoorsman with a love for hunting and fishing, a member of the National Ski Patrol, a beekeeper, a gardener, and a farmer who raised sheep and one sorry llama. He became a follower of Jesus at age 19 and served The Lord as a preacher, teacher, song leader and elder. He was an integral part in the planning and construction of the Mancos Church of Christ building where he served until his death. He was an outstanding neighbor, always willing to help, a true friend, a loving father and grandfather and an amazing husband. He was preceded in death by his father; his mother; his sister, Billie Mueller and her husband, Al Mueller; his daughter-in-law, Rhonda Roach; and a grandson, Kyler Roach. The world has lost a good man whose generous spirit always sought to bless. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Aubrey "Bud" Roach with Hospice of Montezuma, PO Box 740, Cortez.
