Artilena Mooney

June 17, 1941 — May 4, 2020

Artilena Mooney was born June 17, 1941 to Artie Walker and Ruby Inman Walker in Sentinel, OK. She passed away peacefully in her sleep May 4, 2020 at the age of 78.
Artilena grew up in the small town of Retrop, OK on the family farm. She became a school teacher and taught in Rocky, OK where she was also a basketball coach. She married Larry Leon Mooney on February 16, 1963. They both decided they wanted to move from OK so they drove until they got to Cortez and decided this would be their home. Artilena taught 4th Grade at Lewis Arriola School when they first moved in 1968. She then transferred to Kemper Elementary where she taught Math and Art until her retirement in 1999. She loved following her daughters to rodeos and spending time with Rodeo Family. She and Larry loved to go big game hunting every year. She especially loved spending time with the grandchildren following their rodeos, 4H and FFA events. You could always find her with a clip board, sharpened pencils, stopwatch and video camera in hand ready to take times and video all of their events.
Artilena is survived by her loving husband Larry Mooney; her daughters, Lana (Kelly) Finley of Cortez, CO, Tana (Marty) Conner of Olathe, CO; her sister, RosaBea Johnson Of Elk City, OK; her grandchildren, Whitney Finley, Cassie Finley, Rylee Finley, Kyra Conner & Tyrell Conner. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, C.O. “Lefty” Walker; and her sisters, Gwelda Graham, Opal Claire, and Frances Hines.
A Celebration of Life will set for a later date this summer.
