ARTHUR MARION SEARCY Funeral services for lifelong Cahone resident Arthur Marion Searcy will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Cahone Cemetery. Art was born on January 7, 1910 in Calhoun, Colo., the son of Steven Edward and Burnie (Butler) Searcy. He passed away on Friday, June 15, 2007 at Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 97. On December 30, 1944, Art married Doris T. “Dolly” Turner in Wichita, Kan. He moved a lot as a child and completed school to the sixth grade. As a young man he liked to box, his friend was his sparing partner for years. Art loved farming growing primarily pinto beans. He also cultivated wheat for 53 years. He said that farming was what he always wanted to do. Art liked to trade and work on guns. He was also known to buy and sell cars, motorcycles, knives and watches. Art also played the fiddle and harmonica. Surviving Art are his children, Mary Ladner of Denver, Colo., A. Wayne Searcy of Cahone, Eileen Markheim of Ignacio, Colo., Nila Padilla of Aurora, Colo., Edna McLain and husband, Russell of Winchester, Calif., George Searcy and wife, Rae of Indian Hills, Colo., and Doris Leach and husband, David of Murrieta, Calif.; his sister, “Bessie” Esther Smart of Cortez; and 22 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dolly Searcy in 2004; his children, Virginia Lee and Charles Searcy; and his brother, Joe Edward Searcy. Memorial contributions may be made in Art’s memory to Hospice of Montezuma, PO Box 740, Cortez.
