ARNOLD GRISWOLD HAMPSON Funeral services for Arnold Griswold Hampson a longtime resident of this area will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Reverend Bud Rousset will officiate. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Arnold was born the son of Arnold Thorpe and Marjorie (Griswold) Hampson on December 15, 1928 in Providence, Rhode Island. He passed away at his Dolores home on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at the age of 82. Arnold married Caroline M. Strad on June 2, 1950 in Arborfield, Saskatchewan, Canada. Together they built a 60 year loving marriage. Arnold graduated with his PhD. from Colorado School of Mines. He was a registered Professional Engineer in five states and received the 1999 Colorado Contractor�s Pioneer of the Year Award. A recipient of the Westinghouse Award on minerals as a youth, Arnold held a lifetime interest and published in mineralogy. Arnold was a member of the Four Corners Gem and Mineral Society and the National Gem and Mineral Society. He held a world renowned collection of micro-mount minerals; a portion of which he donated to the Colorado School of Mines. Surviving Arnold are his beloved wife, Carrie Hampson of Dolores; his children, Shelley J. Biard and husband, Ernie of Cortez, Pixie Hollen and husband, Clay of Pleasant View, Kent S. Hampson of Cortez, Herschel Hampson and wife, Ronda of Dolores, Rebbeca Huhn and husband, Dave of Mancos, and Miranda K. Moyer of Grand Junction, Colo.; by six grandchildren and one great grandchild; by one brother, Robert Hampson and wife, Donna of Massachusetts; and two sisters, Virginia Finley of Connecticut and Marjorie Judd of Maryland. Arnold was preceded in death by his parents; by and infant son, Forest Hampson; and by two grandchildren, Nathan N. Biard and Jordan R. Hampson. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Arnold G. Hampson with the Dolores State Bank. These funds will be distributed to various local non-profit organizations.
