ARNOLD EUGENE “ARNIE” HAAK Memorial services for Arnold Eugene “Arnie” Haak, a longtime Cortez resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 10 at Montezuma Valley Presbyterian Church. Pastors Steve and Kim Nofel will officiate. Arnie was born the son of Enas and Eleanor (Herren) Haak on Feb. 9, 1937 in Denver, Colo. He passed away at Vista Grande Inn on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at the age of 70. On September 22, 1962 Arnie married Laurie Sue Espen in Spokane, Wash, sharing 45 years of marriage together. Most of Arnie’s career was spent with the U.S. Navy and the National Guard. He was a Boy Scout Leader and had also been employed by Boy Scouts of America. A member of Montezuma Valley Presbyterian Church, Arnie enjoyed singing in the choir. He was also a member of the Masons and Eastern Star. Many will remember Arnie as the maintenance man at Vista Grande Inn. In 1997 Arnie hiked the Colorado Trail, a 550 miles trek running from Durango to Denver. At his home he had three pet goats that he enjoyed giving his attention to. Surviving Arnie are his wife, Laurie Haak of Cortez; his children, Stephanna M. Haak and Nannette S. Watada and husband, Alan all of Thornton, Colo., and Aaron Haak of San Diego, Calif.; one grandson, Jaden Watada of Thornton; and his parents, Enas and Eleanor Haak of Dell Rapids, S.D. Also surviving Arnie are his siblings, Elmer Haak and wife, Hattie of Dell Rapids, S.D., Elaine Braa and husband, Art of Rapid City, S.D., Robert Haak and wife, Carol of Fort Worth, Texas, Anita Haak of Albany, Ore., and Ruth Haak of Sioux Falls, S.D.
