ANTHONY RAMOS VALDEZ Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident, Anthony Ramos Valdez will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 6 at the St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. A prayer vigil has been scheduled at 7 p.m. on Monday, December 5 at the Catholic Church. Tony was born on March 30, 1938 in Capulin, Colo. the son of Roman T. and Guadalupe (Rivera) Valdez. He passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2005 at the Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 67. Tony was an active member in his community. He was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus Member, as well as a member of the Ute Mountain American Legion. He spent his working career as an electronics instructor for the San Juan Basin Technical School. Tony was a handyman as well; he did all of his own home improvements and remodeling. His hobbies included hunting, four wheeling, and gardening in his small garden. Drinking coffee with his buddies and spending time with family and friends was a love of Tony’s. Surviving Tony are his wife of four years, Jeanine Valdez of Cortez; his children, Yvonne Marie Valdez and companion, Dave Harrison, Anthony R. Valdez Jr., and companion, Jennifer Collom all of Cortez, Robin Lee Kingery and husband, Danny of Kremling, Colo., Chenoa Ann Reeves and husband, Steve of Tucson, Ariz.; his step-daughters, Lesli Alexander and husband, Dennis of Fort Collins, Colo., Kristine Nunn-Fraley and husband, David of Cortez. He leaves 18 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and his brothers, Roman T. Valdez and wife, Margie of Denver, Colo., Alfonso Valdez and wife, CeCe of Capulin, Colo., and Andrew Valdez and wife, Nellie of Boulder, Colo. Preceding him in death were his parents, Roman T. and Gudalupe Valdez; his wife, of 25 years, Barbara; and their infant son, Baby Valdez. Memorial contributions can be made in Tony’s name at Citizens State Bank of Cortez. Services are under the direction of the Ertel Funeral Home.
