Annie Marie Lockwood

Annie Marie Lockwood, age 78, died peacefully at home in Cortez, Colorado on November 13, 2016 with her family in attendance. The youngest of six children, Annie was born to Eivind and Frances Nilsen in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado on December 7, 1937. She was the first sibling to be born in a hospital. At age 16, she enrolled in the Bon Ton Beauty school and completed her education in cosmetology in September 1955. She graduated from the Cheyenne County High School in May of 1956. In 1968 she began a highly successful, lifelong career in the insurance industry. Beginning as a secretary for an independent claims adjustment company, she retired as the owner of Ann Lockwood Insurance Agency in 2008. She was married to Donald B. Lockwood, Jr. on June 3, 1956 at Mt. Carmel Catholic church in Denver, Colorado. She spent most of her life in Colorado but also lived in Arizona for 25 years. In her youth, Annie developed an unending sense of adventure as she traveled across the country. In addition to being a traveler, she was a hiker, skier, 4-wheeler, and a foody. But more than anything else in life, Annie enjoyed people. She would initiate a conversation with anyone, and because she listened, people were naturally drawn to befriend her. A good dinner, a glass of wine, and people with whom to share time and conversation were all that was necessary to make her happy. Annie is survived by her husband, Donald, to whom she was married 60 years; her sister Margit Mena; her sons Donald (Debbie); Carmine (Barbara); and Gavin (Karen), six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Victor, Harold, William, and Henry. At the request of Annie, there will be no services at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Montezuma (www.hospiceofmontezuma.org/giving/donate). The care and service their staff provide is without measure.
