ANN MARGARET FERANDO Services for Albuquerque resident, Ann Margaret Ferando will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 10 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. A reception will follow the service at the funeral home. Ann was born on November 26, 1918 in Rico, Colo., the daughter of Andrew and Ena (James) Hiedt. She passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2005 in Albuquerque, N.M. at the age of 86. Ann and her family lived in Rico for three years after her birth and then moved to California. There she was raised as an original “California Beach Girl.” During the Depression, Ann’s parents were forced to return to their homestead in Rico, where her father became an ore miner. She was 18 years old at the time her family returned to Rico. She met another first generation Italian American, Jim Ferando. They were married in 1938. Jim and Ann became the parents of their only child, James Robert, in 1941. Ann was an accomplished piano player who was known to play with some of the local Rico bands. She was also a very talented artist. Among her other talents, she was a good typist, a fantastic seamstress and an excellent cook. She loved competing with the Rico ladies during Women’s Club gatherings. She was friendly, outgoing, and had many friends and acquaintances. She will be missed by many. Surviving Ann are her son, Jim Ferando and wife, Lisa; three grandchildren, Ernie Cano and wife, Margaret, Lynn Cano Fenley and husband, Gary, Kevin Ferando and wife Viki; six great-grandchildren, Ashley Cano, Chris Cano, Kelsie Cano-Atzberger, Payton Ferando, Parker Ferando, and Paige Ferando, all of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sisters, Louise Formico and husband, Buddy, and Emma Lou Del Re all of Pueblo, Colo., and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, who died in October 2004, and her older brother, Andrew Heidt.
