ANITA TSOSIE Funeral services for Cortez resident Anita Tsosie will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 14 at the Cortez First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. Rev. William D. Lee will officiate. The daughter of Little Harvey and Jessie (White) Harvey, Anita was born on March 10, 1959 in Sweetwater, Ariz. She passed away on Monday, April 9, 2007 at the age of 48. Anita was a well known and respected weaver throughout the world. Her rug work had been featured in the Cortez Journal, the Arizona Highway Magazine and Native People’s Magazine, as well as various other publications. Anita won numerous awards for her beautiful work and one of her rugs became a U.S. postage stamp. Some of the different styles of rugs that Anita wove were, Serape, Chief Blankets, Sandpainting, Yei Bi Chai, Teec Nos Pos, Rug Dresses (Biil), and Germantown. Surviving Anita are her husband, Herman Tsosie of Cortez; her children, Carrie Kay Tsosie and Reno Tsosie, both of Cortez; her parents, Little Harvey and Jessie Harvey of Cortez; and her siblings, Leman Harvey and wife, Jane of Kayenta, Ariz., Norman Harvey and wife, Verm of Aztec, N.M., and Evelyn Billie and husband, Wilson of Aneth, Utah. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Bert and Anna White; and her brother, Wilford J. Harvey.
