Alyne Eakins

October 19, 1924 — March 26, 2005

ALYNE EAKINS A celebration of the life of Alyne Eakins, a longtime resident of Cortez will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 1 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Alyne was born October 19, 1924 at Celina, Texas the daughter of Roy Edgar and Alla Tommie (Raper) Rucker. She passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital on Saturday, March 26, 2005. She was 80 years old. Alyne was a successful real estate broker, beginning her career in the 1970’s. She took great pride in giving very personal service to each of her clients, developing a clientele who requested her over and over again. In fact, the Century 21 signs across the area simply said, “Alyne” as the agent, with no last name needed. She loved her job and clients, developing many lasting friendships from selling someone a home. She often joked about writing a book about some of her stranger listings with mysterious clients from out of town/country. Alyne loved interacting with people as she found the perfect home for them to buy. She will be missed by many in the real estate business and community. She could not go into a store or restaurant without engaging in conversation with someone she had sold a home to. Surviving Alyne are her daughter, Belinda L. Hawkey of Cortez; her two grandchildren, Christopher Hawkey of Mississippi, and Jill Hawkey of Durango; great grandson, Kale; and her sister, Louise Duncan of Dallas, Texas. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Murray Eakins; and two brothers and two sisters. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Alyne Eakins with the Dolores State Bank.
