ALWYN FRANKLIN WALL Funeral services for Towaoc resident, Alwyn Franklin Wall will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 21 at the Towaoc Recreation Center. Interment will follow at Towaoc Cemetery. Pastor Davis Badback will officiate. Visitation has been set for Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Four Corners Funeral Chapel. Alwyn was born the son of Alfred Wall Sr. and Ida Jacket on January 11, 1952 in Cortez. He passed away in Durango at Four Corners Health Care Center on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 following a lengthy illness. Alwyn was 56 years old. He attended high school at Chilocco Indian School in Newkirk, Okla., graduating in 1971. Alwyn attended Haskel Junior College in Lawrence, Kans. Alwyn was a Southern Fancy Dancer and had performed in Washington, D.C. at the Inauguration of Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson and at the Air Force for another president. He enjoyed Pow-Wows, Sundance, and was a member of the Native American Church. He played at many basketball tournaments all over and had received many awards. Alwyn was the first person to take Ute Mountain Ute youths to Minnesota for the Native American Indigenous Games. An outgoing person, Alwyn had many friends all over. He had many jokes to tell and was always laughing. He loved to play Bingo and the slots at casinos. Employed by the Ute Mountain Tribe, Alwyn held many different positions including, Ute Mountain Pottery as a pottery molder, Ute Alcohol Department as a substance abuse counselor, Youth Opportunity Program working in maintenance, and lastly at Ute Mountain Farm & Ranch. Surviving Alwyn are his children, Silas Chimburas of Fort Duchesne, Utah, Arwin Wall and wife, Brenda of Towaoc, Vida G. Wall of Cortez, Alwyn Wall Jr. and wife, Seraphina of Tuba City, Ariz., Mario Wall of Towaoc and Julius Wall and wife, Kim Yanito of Towaoc; and by 11 grandchildren. Also surviving Alwyn are his brothers, Douglas Wall, Alfred Wall Jr., Serenus Wall, Orrin Wall and Lyndreth Wall all of Towaoc, Darren Jacket of Montrose, Colo., and Rick Blackburn of Lander, Wyo.; by sisters, Juanita Frost, Lisa Jacket and Andrea Martinez all of Towaoc; aunts, Eva Wall Colorow and Virginia Root; uncle, Leroy Johnson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
