ALVIN CHARLES PINNECOOSE Funeral services for Alvin Charles Pinnecoose, a lifelong resident of this area will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, July 10 at the Towaoc Recreation Center with Mr. Terry Knight officiating. Interment is to follow at the Towaoc Cemetery. A Wake will be held Sunday evening beginning at 7 p.m. at the home of Lee Ann Pinnecoose, 260 W. Rustling Willow in Towaoc. Alvin was born the son of Alvin Pinnecoose and Judy Knight in Cortez on May 2, 1965. He passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at the age of 41. Alvin graduated from Montezuma-Cortez High School in 1983, where he played basketball and baseball. He went on to a construction school in Denver and then to the Denver Institute of Technology. He received his C.A.D. Drafting Associate of Applied Science degree. Using his degree, Alvin was employed by Weeminuche Construction Authority as a draftsman. Alvin met Sharon Quam in October 1986 and from there they developed a devoted relationship. They married on May 2, 1997 in Denver. A true sports fanatic, Alvin followed the Broncos, Nuggets, Avalanche and the Rockies. He loved to pass on his knowledge in sports to the young children. He had coached his daughter Naomi’s peewee basketball team. Alvin participated in the various Ceremonies, the Native American Church, sweat lodge and Sun Dance. Surviving Alvin are his wife, Sharon Quam of Cortez; his mother, Judy Knight Frank of Towaoc; his two daughters, Naomi and Tyra Pinnecoose of Cortez; a sister, Lee Ann Pinnecoose of Towaoc; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives from three reservations; Ute Mountain Ute Reservation, Southern Ute Reservation, and Uinitah and Ouray Reservation in Utah. He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Pinnecoose in 2004; grandparents, Charles Knight, Kate Snow Knight, Virginia Pinnecoose and Graves Gunn. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Alvin C. Pinnecoose with the Vectra Bank.
