ALLEN EUGENE HANCOCK Services for former area resident, Allen Eugene Hancock will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 27 at the Cortez Christian Church. Pastor Charles Story will officiate. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. Visitation has been set for Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Allen was born on April 22, 1923 in Boise City, Okla. to son of William Oscar and Mary (Ohnick) Hancock. He passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2004 at the Del Webb Memorial Hospital in Surprise, Ariz. Allen was 81 years old. On Dec. 18, 1945 at Aztec, N.M., Allen married Eileen Mary Hixson. Together they shared 58 years of marriage. A miner by trade, Allen also farmed dry land beans and wheat, and was a welder. Allen loved baseball; whether watching the sport or playing it. He enjoyed rock-collecting and working in the yard. Allen held a special love of horses. Surviving Allen is his beloved wife, Eileen of Surprise, Ariz.; his children, Janice Eileen Hannah and husband, Gary of Gold Canyon, Ariz., Mary Arvetta Foss and husband, Steve of Colorado Springs, Colo., David Allen Hancock and wife, Shelly of Yellow Jacket, Colo., and Leah Kaye Sheley and husband, Jeff of Cortez; and 20 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. His brother, Lester Hancock and wife, Paula of Dove Creek; and sisters, Betty James of Redmond, Wash., and Dorothy Randolph and husband, Kenneth of Dove Creek also survive Allen. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers and two sisters. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Allen Hancock with the Citizens State Bank of Cortez to benefit the Del Webb Memorial Hospital I.V. Unit.
