ALLAN LOUIS WHITMER Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident Allan Louis Whitmer will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 30 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Empire Chapel. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. Bishop Russell Decker will officiate. The family will receive visitors between the hours of 1 and 2 p.m. Monday afternoon at the church. Allan was born on February 19, 1933 in Alpine, Ariz. the son of Ralph Judd and Virginia (Swapp) Whitmer. He passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at his residence at the age of 75. On August 18, 1967, Allan married Pamela B. Evans at the Salt Lake City Temple. Allan retired from the United States Postal Service where he had served as Postmaster. Allan was an active member of his community having been a part of the RE-1 school board for eight years, on the Montezuma County Fair Board, and the Montezuma County Planning Commission. Allan was an avid horseman who loved working with cattle and horses. He also enjoyed time spent hunting and fishing. His grandchildren were the center of his life. Surviving Allan are his wife of 40 years, Pamela Whitmer of Cortez; and his children, Leanne Rich, Shane Whitmer and wife, Karla, Stacy McCall and husband, Jimmy, Delanie Gustafson and husband, Wayne and Carlos Whitmer and wife, Hiedy, all of Cortez. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Kealey and Ryan Rich, Justin and Jarett Whitmer, Chance and Chase McCall, Taylor, Trenton, and Todd Gustafson, Kiffany, Sheldon, and Natalie Whitmer; his brother, Milford Whitmer and wife, Deana of Cortez; his very close friend whom Allan thought of like a step-son, Roudy Hampton his wife, Tina and family, of Cortez; and numerous nieces and nephews. Allan was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and one sister.
