ALICE ANN APPLEGATE (HALL) Funeral services for Cortez resident Alice Ann Applegate (Hall) will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 10 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Summit Ridge Cemetery. A reception will follow the interment at the Cortez Cattle Company Restaurant, 640 S. Broadway. A visitation has been scheduled for Thursday morning from 10 a.m. to noon at Ertel Chapel. Alice was born on December 31, 1940 in Maywood, Neb. the daughter of Harry and Ruth (Stone) McGinnis. She passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2008 at the home she shared with Boyd Hall at the age of 67. Alice and her family lived in Maywood and Paxton, Neb. In November of 1956, Alice married Larry Gene Nowak in Ogallala, Neb. To this union four children were born, Patrick, Diana, Teresa, and Tim. The family lived in western Nebraska and eastern Colorado until the couple divorced in 1967. In 1969, Alice married Bob Applegate. He preceded her in death in 1990. During their married life they lived in California, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah. She returned to the Cortez area in 1996 where she and Boyd Hall have lived and operated Hall Furniture Store. Alice enjoyed the mountains and nature in general. She loved going camping, hunting and fishing. She loved sharing those outdoor activities with her family. Surviving Alice are her husband, Boyd Hall of Cortez; and her children, Patrick Nowak and wife, Sandy of Cortez, Diana Trulock and husband, Bill of Colorado Springs, Colo., Teresa Kanning and husband, Rich of Atlantic, Iowa, and Tim Nowak and wife, Judy of Ogallala, Neb. She also leaves behind her step-children, Roberta Applegate, Susan Glittenberg, Robert Applegate, Ronnie Applegate, Burl Applegate, Body Hall and wife, Carrie, and Michelle Sharp; her nieces, Gracia Blank, and Cathy McGinnis; and David White; her grandchildren, Nick Nowak, April Nowak, Stephanie Trulock, Jennifer Trulock, Lisa Kanning, Rick Kanning, Wynston Nowak, and Cooper Nowak; her grandchildren on Boyd's side, Kendra and Jace Sharp and Bryson and Brooke Hall; and her great-grandchildren, David, Christian and Lotus. She greatly enjoyed spending time with each one of the grandchildren as they grew up.
