ADONAIS “ED” GALLEGOS Funeral services for Adonais “Ed” Gallegos, a longtime Cortez resident, will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 27 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Officiating will be Father Joseph Gallegos. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. Visitation has been scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at the Ertel Memorial Chapel from 3 to 5 p.m. Rosary services will be held Wednesday evening at the Catholic Church beginning at 7 p.m. Ed was born on August 10, 1926 in Cebolla, N.M., the son of Adolpho and Eufemia (Gurule) Gallegos. He passed away at his home on Saturday, April 22, 2006 at the age of 79. Ed married Mary T. Martinez in Aztec, N.M. in October 1946. They shared 58 years of marriage. Twelve children were born to Ed and Mary, three of which precede him in death. When Ed was younger he played in a band and excelled playing the guitar. He enjoyed camping and fishing at Groundhog Reservoir with his family. Ed especially liked to have a good time with his friends. Surviving Ed are his children, Jo Mott and husband, Ralph of Cortez, Alex Gallegos of Cortez, Phillip Martinez and wife, Maxine of Durango, Toby Gallegos and wife, Sharon of Durango, Leonard Gallegos of Denver, Maryann Miera and husband, Raphael of Cortez, Larry Gallegos and wife, Kathy of Farmington, N.M., Carmen Gallegos of Cortez, and Ernestine Olivas and husband, Gilbert of Cortez; his sister, Carmelita Archibeque and husband, Mike of Cortez; and numerous grandchildren. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary T. Gallegos in December 2004; his children, Stella Lopez, Steven Gallegos, and Stella Gallegos; and his grandsons, Carlos Martinez and Joseph Gallegos. Memorial contributions may be made in Ed’s memory to Hospice of Montezuma.
