ADA LORENE MATHEWS Memorial services for longtime Mancos resident Ada Lorene Mathews will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 11 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Lorene was born on July 2, 1917 in Maude, Okla. the daughter of Felix G. and Lilly Augustos (Stark) Day. She passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2008 at Vista Grande Inn at the age of 91. On February 29, 1935, Lorene married Harmon Mathews. The couple moved from Oklahoma to Colorado in 1947. Lorene was a devout Baptist and she was active with the Pink Ladies. She sold Mary Kay cosmetics and in her spare time she enjoyed playing cards, baking, cooking and spending time with her family. Surviving Lorene are her children Doyle Mathews and wife, Jackie of Ordway, Colo., Darell Mathews and wife, Karen of Mancos, and Alan Mathews and wife, Susanna of Victorville, Calif.; 25 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Harvey Day of California, and Leo Day of Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harmon Mathews in 2006; her children, Marvin Mathews and Harlene Mathews; and her siblings, Hubert Day, Jim Day, and Ethel Harbison.
