ABEL HERMAN “ABE” MARTINEZ Funeral services for Abel Herman “Abe” Martinez a longtime Mancos resident, will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, December 9 at St. Rita Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery with Military Honors provided by Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. Visitation has been set for Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Abe was born March 11, 1946 in Coyote, N.M. the son of Ignacio Juan and Carlotta (Velasquez) Martinez. He passed away at Mercy Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at the age of 60. A graduate of Aztec High School, Abe went on the serve his country in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1967 in Viet Nam. On May 5, 1978 Abe married Rose Maestas in Bloomfield, N.M. Together they have shared 28 years of marriage. Abe was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. He loved rock hunting and camping. Surviving Abe are his wife, Rose Martinez of Mancos; his mother, Carlotta of Bloomfield, N.M.; his son, Chris Maestas; and two grandchildren, Terrell Maestas and Cory Maestas. Also surviving Abe are his sisters and brothers, Juanita Armenta and husband, Louis of Bloomfield, N.M., Joe Martinez and wife, Lila of Bloomfield, N.M., Sally Arenas and husband, William of Aztec, N.M., Connie Jrijalua and husband, Jose of Aztec, N.M. and Irene Cabrera and husband, Saul of Odessa, Tex. He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Rudy Martinez and LeRoy Martinez.
