ARTHUR "WAYNE" DENNY Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident Arthur Wayne Denny will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 8 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. Wayne was born on June 3, 1908 in Idaho Falls, Idaho the son of Paul Arthur and Grace Leona (Palmer) Denny. He passed away on Friday, January 1, 2010 at his residence at the age of 101. On December 26, 1977, Wayne married Viola Randles in Las Vegas, Nev. Wayne was a member of the Elks, V.F.W. and the American Legion. He served his country in the United States Army in communications under General Patton. In his free time, Wayne loved to bowl. He started bowling in 1975 and was a member of the American Bowling Congress. Surviving Wayne are his wife, Viola Denny of Cortez; his daughter, Patricia Pierce and husband, Stan of Cortez; grandson, Doug Pierce and wife, Kim of Bayfield, Colo.; 17 additional grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; and nephew, Bob Durant and wife, Donna of Cortez. Wayne also leaves behind his step-children, Arlene Allen and husband, West of Cortez, Lorene Mead of Cortez, Claudean Boatman and husband, Tony of Windsor, Colo., Judy Lange of New Fairfield, Conn., Ellen Koller of Cortez, Ed Tevault of Cortez, Robert Tevault and wife, Brenda of Waddell, Ariz., Richard Tevault and wife, Eileen of Mesa, Ariz., and Larry Tevault and wife, Pat of Cortez; and his siblings, Willard Denny and wife, Agnes of Salinas, Calif., Lawson Denny and wife, Lenore of Elgin, Ore., and Shirley Hunt of Layton, Calif. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; and by his siblings, Dorothy Roatcap, Alex Denny, Tom Denny, Helen Thomas, Lee Denny, and Emma Swank; and by his grandson, Rick Pierce.
